VNLC 2017-2018 Internship Applications

17-18 Internship (1)

Greetings from Vietnamese Language and Culture! VNLC is a student organization at UCLA that promotes and preserves Vietnamese culture and traditions by upholding the values of cultural involvement and educational enrichment, and we would like to invite you to apply for our 2017-2018 internship program!

Our year-long internship program is designed to familiarize members with VNLC’s goal of spreading awareness of the Vietnamese traditions and customs. Through this program, interns will have the opportunity to learn more about the cultural and linguistic barriers existing between the youth and older Vietnamese generations, the educational issues present in high school communities, and the ways we can help bridge these divides. This will also allow interns to have more hands-on experience planning and hosting outreach events, such as the annual VNLC Tết Festival and our spring high school field trip!

We are looking for students who have an interest in Vietnamese culture and community service and want to contribute their dedication and enthusiasm to the club!

May Recap

mayrecap-01.pngAs May comes to a wrap and summer is not too far away, VNLC is also starting to wrap up our activities and projects for the 2017-2018 academic year. This month we thanked our members, sent off our graduating seniors, and celebrated a wonderful year at our Harry Potter themed banquet! We also wrapped up the quarter with two final general meetings during weeks 6 and 8. VNLC also tried something new this quarter… We went kayaking! And it wouldn’t be like VNLC to not have an 85 Degrees Bake Sale towards the end of the quarter!

This year VNLC celebrated another successful year at our Harry Potter themed banquet on Saturday, May 19th. Although we are so proud to see our seniors, Jimmy Lin and Minh Tran, graduate, we are also very sad to not have them around next year and will really miss them. We also transition our new and returning staff with gifts and wishes of good luck for the upcoming year! Check out our photos from banquet below! More photos can also be found here!

This month we also had our last two general meetings for the 2017-2018 year. During Week 6 we got the chance to learn about education in Vietnam from our new staff members Vivian Doan and Khanh Nguyen. At the last general meeting of the year we got the chance to learn some Vietnamese Trivia while playing Kahoot! against one another!Education in VietnamVNLC Trivia Night

May brought a chance for us to catch some warm sun rays, so we took the chance to spend some time in the sun during our VNLC Goes Kayaking social! For many of us this was a first time experience, and it was one to never forget!

And it wouldn’t be normal for VNLC to finish off another quarter without an 85 Degrees Bake Sale. VNLC has its final fundraiser of the year on Wednesday, May 30th, when we sold 85 Degrees’s baked goods on Bruin Walk. Thank you to everyone who came out to help us sell, and shout out to all of those who stopped by and supported us!85.png
